CHÂTEAU NOIR UNIVERSITY

Welcome to CNU!

Founded in 1735 on an ancient leyline in New Orleans, Château Noir University (CNU) stands at the crossroads of tradition, innovation, and the unseen. For nearly three centuries, CNU has educated the supernatural while maintaining regulated connections to the Human Realm. Through selective initiatives like the Twilight Program, students known as Twilighters gain opportunities to study across realms, supported by enchanted credentials and strict inter-realm oversight. Today, Château Noir University remains one of the most competitive and respected institutions, renowned for academic rigor, research, and an unmatched legacy.

WORLD INFO

The world is split into two realities: The Human Realm and The Veiled Realm, both existing simultaneously but separated by a boundary known as The Rift. This barrier is in constant flux, automatically opening at dusk and dawn, allowing passage between the realms through rare portals before sealing again.

Human Realm

The Human Realm is modern-day Earth as most people understand it. Supernatural phenomena is dismissed as coincidence, mental illness, or hoaxes because true magic does not belong here. Still, the Rift (an invisible boundary separating realms) is thinner in places where death, grief, or emotional intensity occurred, allowing traces of the Veiled Realm to bleed through. These weak points are known as Liminal Zones. Cemeteries, abandoned hospitals, old battlefields, disaster sites, and haunted houses have residual energy that disrupts electronics, bends perception, and attracts spirits. Most humans pass through these zones feeling uneasy or watched. A rare few (like mediums) experience headaches, whispers, or vivid hallucinations without understanding why. When supernatural energy spills over, it manifests as freak weather, power outages, mass hallucinations, spontaneous fires, or impossible biological events like flowers blooming in snow, animals behaving strangely, people dreaming of places they’ve never been.Humans, by default, are barred from the Veiled Realm. Attempting to cross without permission results in disappearance or partial erasure. Urban legends of missing hikers, vanished towns, or people “stepping into the wrong place” are often the only surviving records of failed crossings.

Veiled Realm

The Veiled Realm is a distorted mirror of Earth. Cities are taller, shadows move intentionally, and environments respond emotionally to their inhabitants. Magic is it's infrastructure. This realm is home to vampires, demons, fae, goblins, demihumans, aquatic creatures, undead constructs, and countless species that defy human taxonomy. Society functions through Arcane Law, a strict magical framework designed to prevent ecological collapse and cross-realm contamination. Magic must be regulated, logged, and moderated; reckless overuse is punishable because it destabilizes the Rift.Institutions, universities, guilds, courts, exist to teach restraint and specialization. Magic has rules: costs, consequences, saturation limits. When those limits are exceeded, the overflow bleeds into the Human Realm, causing hauntings, possessions, electrical failures, and reality glitches. The Veiled Realm can be entered by humans but only by explicit invitation, binding contract, or bloodline exception. Entry without permission fractures identity; the realm rejects those not attuned to it. Similarly, Veiled beings entering the Human Realm must suppress their true forms and powers. Staying too long causes physical decay, magical sickness, or violent instability.

The Rift (The Boundary Between)

The Rift is a pressure boundary. It responds to trauma, magic density, and emotional resonance. Where suffering accumulates, it thins. Where magic is abused, it also thins. Both realms depend on its stability, yet neither fully understands its origin.

Academics

CNU offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, designed to integrate scholarship with advanced study. Programs are taught by leading scholars, master practitioners, and researchers whose work shapes policy and knowledge across both realms. The Twilight ProgramThe Twilight Program is one of CNU's most competitive and closely monitored initiatives, offering select human students the opportunity to study in the Veiled Realm. Participation is limited and application-based.All participants are issued enchanted identification credentialscalled Veil Passes that permit crossings at the Rift during transitions at dawn and dusk, and violations of protocol carry severe consequences.

Athletics

Athletics at CNU balance tradition, discipline, and controlled supernatural ability. Competing primarily against elite Veiled Realm institutions (most notably rival Gravemire Hollow University), CNU teams are known for precision and dominance. All teams, whether competing in the Human Realm, Veiled Realm, or inter-realm leagues, operate under strict regulations to ensure fairness and athlete safety.CNU athletics operate under the principle of measured excellence. Raw power—magical or physical—is secondary to discipline, strategy, and restraint. Athletes are expected to represent the university with professionalism, honoring both its traditions and modern standards.

GREEK LIFE

Greek life at CNU is selective but social, with houses known for strong traditions, tight communities, and active alumni networks. Membership is open to all species unless otherwise noted.

Fraternities

Phi Delta Noctis

Welcomes primarily night-aligned students and creatures. PDN has a reputation for being the night-house to get wasted. Lot's of evil fuckers and rich pricks. Academically, they do surprisingly well... mostly because their upperclassmen run ruthless study schedules… at 3:00 AM.

Kappa Lambda Sigil

KLS is where spellcraft meets chaos. They attract artifice majors, engineers, and students who like building things they probably shouldn’t. They’re known for themed parties that go way too hard and gadgets that accidentally shut off campus lights.

Alpha Theta Rift

ATR is the classic “hot, loud, competitive” frat. Lots of athletes, student politicians, and rich kids with too much confidence. If there’s a scandal, odds are someone from ATR was nearby. They’re excellent at networking and terrible at laying low.

Sigma Pyre Chi

SPC is intense. These guys train hard, party hard, and take pride in controlled power use, which sometimes slips into “controlled chaos.” They have a reputation for attracting people who like adrenaline, fire, and flirting with poor decisions.

Sororities

Lambda Nyx Eta

LNE runs on influence. They’re polished, well-connected, and very aware of their own power. Socially, they host some of the most exclusive events on campus, invite-only mixers where reputations are made or ruined.

Theta Moon Beta

TMB leans artistic, emotional, and messy in the best way. Theater kids, musicians, dancers, and illusionists dominate this house. Their parties are dramatic and wildly unpredictable.

Kappa Solis Astra

KSA is bright, loud, and unapologetically social. They throw some of the most talked-about parties on campus and are deeply involved in event planning and philanthropy... sometimes as an excuse to party. They are the most welcoming of human exchange students.

Nyx Chi Psi

NCP is academically and athletically terrifying and sneaky as hell. They’re known for tutoring by day and being morally questionable by night, attracting creatures of desire and/or evil bitches who "eat" others alive. A majority of the cheer squad lives here.
